In February you might want to make a day trip over to Bayfield, Wisconsin. The drive takes about an hour and a half, but you can take Hwy 13 right along the south shore of Lake Superior. There is plenty of wildlife that I have spotted right along that road including turkeys, eagles, deer, lynx, and even a bear.
In the winter it is slower in Bayfield, but there are some nice shops open year round. I recommend Bayfield Wine and Spirits run by Joanne Cirillo. There is a great bookstore, a coffee shop, a great restaurant called Maggie’s, and Sweet Sailing (where you can pick up delicious jars of jam).
